This workshop will focus on the importance of education in human development. A special focus will be placed on efforts to include education in programs that assist people after disasters and conflicts. This approach, known as Education in Emergencies (EiE), includes psychosocial support and recognizes the rights of children and youth to learn and develop, even in the most adverse circumstances. Education is critical to increasing resiliency and enhancing the well-being of people of all ages, but young people in particular need access to formal and informal learning opportunities.
Exploring the theory and practice of Education in Emergencies highlights education issues related to access and equality, including educational disparities among countries and groups within a country, as well as alternative and holistic models of education.
The workshop facilitators have a wealth of experience in humanitarian contexts, and will be discussing case studies on education in international development and relief programs. This will be an engaging and participatory workshop.
