Teaching Methodology and Strategy

Please, study habits of students in recent times in my own part of the world is almost at zero level. I need your suggestions on how to teach Literature in English and strategies to make students do the indepth study of the prescribed texts without unnecessarily relying on teachers' dominance in class.
