I have worked with the East African Community, Somalis in particular, to conduct needs assessments to develop intervention action plans. Additionally, I have experience developing data collection instruments, conducting qualitative interviews and focus groups, performing statistical analysis, and collaborating with others in presenting research information. I consider the role of refugee/immigrant families in culture and the ways in which East African to work with the researchers as an impetus for important societal will shifts dramatically.

I am a trained community- based participatory action research (CBPAR), education and policy researcher affiliated with University of Minnesota. Health priority areas include Healthy Families and Youth, Mental Health, Chronic Disease Prevention and Culturally Competent Health Care. I am a Co-Investigator and Project Manager Team of the study commissioned by the MN legislature focuses on the experiences of families and their children with autism. The intent of the study is to understand “cultural‐ and resource‐based aspects of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) that are unique to the Somali community.”
I have worked with the University of Minnesota Program in Human Sexuality’s Somali Women’s Initiative for Sexual Health (SWISH). I am a Co‐investigator on the project. This project examines HIV/AIDS‐related knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of Somali women.

If you have done work internationally, where and in what capacity?

I have not done internationally but I am interesting doing women's health and social justice in third world. When consistent, factual, mind-set, Immigrant women’s stand point, humor, and a dedicated to social change individual like I am come to your team the results are life changing.

How did you hear about us and a few words why you want to join EBB:

I was searching international organizations that focus on education in development countries. I will offer considerations and catalysts for the ways in which both East African immigrant and researchers can create change within families and the broader community through awareness and gentle, yet powerful, everyday changes.I am looking forward to hear from you.
