I'm a problem solver. i ask what a community/school needs and work to help the community answer their needs.
If you have done work internationally, where and in what capacity?
My wife, Pat, and I have done Rotary projects in Kenya and Uganda for the past five years. We work primarily in primary schools providing clean water, sanitation, hand-washing stations, sanitary towels, mosquito nets, etc. This past year we created libraries in six rural schools in the Kisii, Magadi, and Karatina areas. We have a Rotary club that handles the containers of books once they reach Mombasa and distributes them to the designated Rural Schools. This year we hope to expand to 16 libraries in Kenya and Uganda. Schools are the Key to progress and i think we have a sound plan for school and community development. The plan includes bringing school and community representatives to a central training site where they received training last December on appropriate technologies to include high yield school gardens, water filters, compressed earth brick making machine, flameless cookers, and micro-credit. All of these technologies have an environmental impact, can generate businesses in the community and will be installed at the school as a way of demonstrating their effectiveness. We want to expand the program to include health and education at the next workshops scheduled for next fall.
there's much more that I could write. I was hoping that we might work together on libraries and training trainers/ teachers. let me know your thoughts.
Don Howard
We held a workshop on appropriate technologies
