Skills & Interests
Skills include: (a) all professional skills associated with being an elementary school teacher, (b) curriculum, workshop, and course development, (c) on-line and in-person teaching, (d) grant writing, (e) qualitative research methodology, (f) fast transcription skills, (g) qualitative data analysis (by-hand and computer-assisted), (h) public speaking and presentation, (i) strong organizational skills, and (j) committed team player and empathic listener.
My interests are broad, ranging from early childhood and elementary education, to pre- and -inservice teacher education, to research into pedagogical conditions that promote happiness and flourishing at school, to play in learning, to arts and outdoor education, to building strong professional and personal relationships that contribute to strong community, schools, and systems of education. I am also very interested in travel!
If you have done work internationally, where and in what capacity?
I currently belong to two international research associations: The American Association for Research in Education, and The International Association for the Study of Play. Through this latter association, I keep abreast of research and practice around the world in support of the 31st article of the UN ("Children have a right to rest, leisure, play, etc"). I am at a stage in my life where I am looking to more actively contribute to and learn from a global community of educators.
If you are willing to volunteer, in what area(s):
curriculum development, evaluation measurements, grant research/writing, mentor teaching, organisational partnerships, researchers, EBB on Campus, workshop facilitation
How did you hear about us and a few words why you want to join EBB:
I learned about EBB through the 2013 fall conference of the BC Teachers for Peace and Global Education. As pointed out in the previous window, I am at a stage where I wish to share with, contribute to, and learn from a community of global educators who are committed to education for social change. I think that EBB is committed to amazing, transformational, and marvellous work! I would like to be a part of this energy and movement.
Kind regards, Scott
