High school is over, and it is time to start seriously considering where you are going to head next with your life. While you might be chomping at the bit to jump into a job, the simple reality is that you will not likely find much in the way of high-paying jobs without some kind of further education. Also, it is okay to work part time while attending classes to build a foundation to a real career that will give you the kind of meaningful income you deserve. If a big state university is not really your speed, then maybe a technical school is right for you. Here are five advantages to attending a technical college like Southwest Technical College to further your education.
When you think about it, most of the important decisions you make in life comes down to how much it is going to cost. A technical college is going to cost you far less than to attend a state university. The programs are shorter, and if you live at home, this will cut down on housing costs as well.
As you can expect, smaller technical colleges will have smaller class sizes than a big university will. Instead of sitting in a class of 100 to 300 students in a large auditorium sized room, your class may have closer to 30 to 50 students or less. This means more one-on-one time between students and professors.
At a major university, your first two-years are wasted just getting through a bunch of general requirements that will undoubtedly have little to nothing to do with your future career. In a technical school, much of this time would be spent working directly on your career goals instead. So, a technical school is really geared for someone who is more interested in gaining immediate, current and relevant career-based skills than getting a general education in some liberal arts program.
Since mastery comes by doing, the kind of skills you will learn at a technical college are the same kind of skills that employers will expect you already know how to do. For example, if you are into graphics design, then you will get hands on training in the skills associated with that kind of career field. The same would be true if you attended a technical college to study welding and working with metal.
While a major university will focus on academic guidance, a technical college tends to focus more on career-based advice for their students. At a technical college, the goal is to make you fit for the career you intend to go into, and to give you the knowledge and skills to master that career. With this kind of career oriented guidance, this can often make graduates of technical schools far more employable in their field of study than those who graduate from a major university.
As you can see, there are many advantages to attending a technical college. The above reasons are but five of the many possible advantages to take notice of when deciding if a technical college is right for your career needs. If you are a very hands on person and like to learn by doing, you will get more of an opportunity to do this in a technical school than you would in most other learning institutions.
