The YMCA Model United Nations program allows Junior High and High school students the opportunity to expand their knowledge of governmental affairs to a global scale. Each school puts together different delegations that represent various countries in the world. Each country may have a representative in each of the United Nations components: the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, or the World Court. Each delegation must debate issues and proposals according to the ideology of their representative country. They must take into account religious factors, economic factors, political alliances, and trade factors into their political stances. Throughout the conference, countries make alliances, declare war, pass treaties and debate legislation, as well deal with current global events and crisis. Students may also elect to take part in the Global News Agency. This group keeps the United Nations informed as to current global events and conference events. The Global News Agency also reports on the actions of each individual component of the United Nations.
