The death of my friend Max the rhino

It is with great sadness and admittedly anger, that I must report the poaching of Max the rhino who I befriended at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in 2009.

Even though his horn was removed by the conservancy officers, he was still murdered, his face and what little of was left of his horn taken.

With deep sadness,

 Lee (Chege)

Kimani Maruge

Perhaps others are aware but I was not when I inquired about the movie First Grader in my last entry that Kimani Maruge had passed away at the age of 90.

I have met so many fantastic people and been treated like family, literally, in Kenya.  It is my loss that I never met Kimani Maruge.   My deepest regrets to his family, friends, 'class mates' and teachers.

Movie the First Grader

Jambo,

Has anyone gone to see the movie The First Grader, the true story of the Kimani Maruge, 84 years old, who entered grade one for the first time?

Also, I will not be able to return to Kenya this summer.  This saddens me very much.  Hopefully next year.

My experiences in Nigeria came at the invitation of the Youth for Technology Organization, and Martins Akpan; the co-coordinator of Teens Resource Centre and producer of a community cable program titled TEENSWORLD on MCTV. Hi Lee,
Yes, I have applied for the Kenya project but haven't heard anything yet...maybe we can do a media thing together. So nice to hear from you and I look forward to collaborating with you once again.
